A Day in the Life: Nurse Injector, Business Owner, and Mom

A day in the life of a nurse injector is full, fast, and meaningful. Desiree is a registered nurse, certified aesthetic injector, and the founder of The Beauty Lab. Her approach is rooted in safety, education, and natural looking outcomes, with a focus on helping clients feel like themselves. In this Q&A, she shares what it really looks like to juggle family, business, and patient care.

Morning Routine and Mom Life

What does your morning routine look like juggling mom life and running a business?

Oh, mornings, they’re a lot! I try to wake up around 5:30 a.m., pour myself a quiet cup of coffee, and spend a few moments reading my Bible. It helps me center myself before the chaos kicks in.

Once the house wakes up, it’s go time. Making breakfast, packing lunches, getting the kids ready and out the door, all while mentally reviewing my client treatments for the day. My daughter’s dance schedule keeps us moving just as much as my clinic schedule does, and honestly, it can be overwhelming sometimes.

But even in the rush, there’s purpose. It’s full. It’s fast. It’s beautiful. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

The Heart Behind the Work

What’s the most rewarding part of being a nurse injector? Any client transformation that still makes you smile?

I find so much purpose and value in empowering people. To be a small part of helping someone appreciate who they are and what they see when they look in the mirror, that’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve seen how even minor adjustments on the outside can create a major shift on the inside.

It’s the “Wow, I needed this” moment that gets me every time. It’s not dramatic or flashy. It’s quiet, personal, and real. That moment when someone feels like themselves again, that’s the part that sticks with me.

There’s one client who comes to mind every time I’m asked this. She walked in feeling tired, not just in how she looked, but in life. After we finished her first round of treatment, she looked at me and said, “I finally feel like myself again.” Watching her reconnect with that version of herself, more confident, more at ease, is something I’ll never forget.

Training, Trends, and Safety

How do you stay current with the latest techniques and trends in aesthetics?

I’m a student at heart, so reading and staying up on new studies is a big part of how I stay sharp. When something trendy pops up, I’m always checking the science behind it, making sure it’s not just popular, but also safe and effective.

I also invest in ongoing education through platforms like Patreon, podcasts, webinars, and yes, even social media. It’s a great way to see what’s new, what’s working, and what’s a little out there!

And of course, hands-on trainings are a non-negotiable for me. I truly believe that continuing education, including nurse injector training, is what keeps my practice evolving and my patients in the best hands.

What People Misunderstand About The Beauty Lab

What’s one thing about running The Beauty Lab that you wish more people knew or understood?

It’s not just about injections or skincare routines. It’s about people. I created The Beauty Lab to bring back the human side of aesthetics. Real connection. Real care. Real transformations that never feel rushed.

This was never meant to feel like a factory or a numbers game. It’s a space where you’re seen, heard, and treated with kindness, every single time. Whether it’s your first consultation or your tenth treatment, the goal is always the same: to help you feel valued, confident, and completely yourself.

That one-on-one experience matters, and it’s exactly why I started The Beauty Lab in the first place.

The Kids Keep It Real

How many kids do you have and what’s the funniest thing they’ve said about what you do?

I have two kids, a daughter and a son, and they definitely keep life entertaining. One memory that still makes me laugh happened when my daughter was younger. I had just gotten a little lip plump and came home from work, ready to give her a big hug and kiss. And listen, anyone who’s had lip filler knows when you’re fresh off the syringe, you’re a little swollen, maybe a little bruised, and definitely not looking totally healed.

She took one look at me and said, “Eww, Mommy, I don’t want to kiss you, you have Botox, and I don’t want Botox!” For the record, it was lip filler, and no, Botox doesn’t transfer like that. But her concern was adorable.

Another time, she asked me for one of my business cards out of nowhere. When I asked why, she said, “I’m going to give it to one of my teachers.” I love that I had a little mini marketer on my hands.

Both my kids have always been incredibly proud of me, not because they know all the ins and outs of what I do, but because they see how hard I work and how much I care. And they’re always cheering me on. That kind of support means the world to me.

Reset, Rest, and Reality

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, what’s your reset button?

This one hits close to home. If I’m honest, I haven’t always been the best at slowing down. I tend to keep going and going until I’m completely drained. It’s only been recently that I’ve truly understood that rest isn’t a luxury, it’s necessary.

Lately, I’ve been more intentional about creating space to recharge. My husband and I recently joined a Bible study group through our church called The Crew, and it’s been such a grounding part of the week. It helps me reflect, reset, and focus on what truly matters.

Also, a walk, a good laugh with my husband and kids, an early bedtime, or even a quiet moment with no noise, those little things go a long way. Sometimes it’s not about doing something big. It’s just stepping away long enough to remember who you are and what matters most.

One Desiree, Not Two Versions

How do you transition from business owner Desiree to mom Desiree?

Surprisingly, I don’t really see these as separate sides of me. My faith, being a mom, and my career, are all deeply connected. I don’t feel the need to compartmentalize them, because they each inform and inspire the other. I carry the same values into each role and try to stay grounded in who I am, no matter the setting. The pace might shift from client appointments to dance mom and dinner duty, but I don’t feel the need to switch hats, because at the end of the day, I’m just showing up as me.

Still You, Just Refreshed

Your tagline is “Still you, just refreshed.” How does this philosophy show up in your own life?

This phrase means everything to me, because it’s how I try to live. I’ve never wanted to reinvent who I am or pretend to be someone else. But I have learned the value of checking in with myself, making space to reset, and doing the inner and outer work that helps me feel aligned and confident.

That’s really what The Beauty Lab is all about. Enhancing what’s already there. Honoring the woman in front of me, her story, her strength, her beauty, and helping her see it a little more clearly. Still her, just refreshed.

A Guilty Pleasure That Stays

What’s one guilty pleasure you won’t give up, no matter how busy you are?

Give me a blanket, something sweet, and a quiet corner. Whether it’s a podcast or Netflix, I always seem to find time for a little true crime or reality TV. Something about it lets my brain completely unplug from the day.
